The Catalan Government gives out 30 of these awards every year to reward research excellence in the Catalan university system. To receive the award, individuals must have spent at least five years primarily engaged in research activities at a Catalan public university. Students and teachers from the third year of Social Education attended the event hold on the 24th and 25th of March in the Faculty of Education and Psychology.
The Council for Doctoral Education (CDE) of the EUA has brought together 240 participants from 34 countries in its 8th annual meeting to debate the current and future state of doctoral studies. The URV attended the meeting, which took place on 18 and 19 June at the Technical University Munich. Tarragona will host the next meeting of the DCE on 16 and 17 June 2016
The first beer made by URV students has been officially presented by the Faculty of Oenology during the closing ceremony of the University Master’s Degree in Fermented Beverages. The ceremony took place on 25 June at the Sescelades Campus and featured a talk by the president of the Guild of Natural and Artisan Beer Makers
The first group of 30 secondary school students to participate in the URV’s science workshops arrived on 29 June. In total four groups of 30 students will take part in the week-long workshops which will run until 24 July. They will participate in activities relating to science, technology and innovation at the Sescelades campus and will also be able to enjoy cultural and leisure activities
A scientific article published in “Nature Scientific Reports” reveals that the oxidation of the amino acid methionine is a blood marker that indicates the oxidation of good cholesterol. This oxidation prevents the cholesterol from maturing and, therefore, from carrying out its protective function. This study -carried out by CIBERDEM/URV researchers jointly with researchers from the Sant Joan de Déu Hospital- has been carried out in a group of girls in the initial stages of polycystic ovary syndrome, which can lead to a high risk of anovulatory infertility, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and metabolic syndrome in adulthood.
